Auf dem Weg zu ihrem Stausee fahren wir an der Eder entlang. Ihr Wasserstand ist recht hoch, sie tritt aber nicht über die Ufer. Bei Herzhausen, wo sie laut unserer Karte in den Edersee übergehen soll, breitet sich aber keine Wasserfläche aus. Der Uferweg führt nicht am Wasser entlang sondern an einer trocken gefallenen Niederung, die von Schilf überwuchert ist. Darüber steigt Nebel auf, den die Sonne bald aufgelöst hat.
At the Eder lake
On the way to its reservoir we drive along the Eder. Its water level is quite high, but it does not overflow its banks. Near Herzhausen, where according to our map it should merge into the Eder lake (Edersee), there is no expanse of water. The riverside way does not lead along the water but at a dry lowland that is overgrown by reeds. Fog rises above it, which the sun will soon disperse.
Das Wasser des Ederstausees wird zur Regulierung der Pegel von Weser und Mittellandkanal genutzt; daher ist es nicht ungewöhnlich, dass sein Wasserstand im Herbst sehr niedrig ist. Vom Weg aus haben wir durch das bunte Herbstlaub immer wieder schöne Ausblicke auf die Senke und das Steilufer auf der anderen Seite des Weges.

Beim Jugend- und Naturcamp Am Hochstein steht eine große Kastanie. Sie fasziniert mit ihren Knospen für den nächsten Frühling. Zwischen ihrem vertrockneten Herbstlaub sind sie schon prall und glänzend, als wollten sie sofort aufbrechen. Ein Pfad führt hier hinunter zur Eder.
At the youth and nature camp Am Hochstein there is a large chestnut. It fascinates with its buds for the next spring. Between their dried up autumn leaves, they are already plump and shiny, as if they wanted to break open immediately. A path leads down to the Eder here.
