Wer das Abenteuer sucht, den findet es auch. Auf dem Weg von Ost-Spanien zurück nach Deutschland müssen wir natürlich über die Pyrenäen. Wir entscheiden uns für die Route durch den Zwergstaat Andorra.
Aus der Ferne haben wir die Pyrenäen als Gebirgszug und die Höhenlagen mit Schnee bedeckt gesehen. Aber jetzt fahren wir auf eine gewaltige, zerklüftete Felsbarriere zu, die den Gebirgszug verdeckt. Erstaunlicherweise gibt es eine Straße, die sich hindurch windet.
Und dann fahren wir in ein Häusermeer hinein, das sich links und rechts die steilen Hänge einer Schlucht hoch zieht, dicht gepackt, mit vielen Hochhäusern, dazwischen Baukräne. Es ist die „Hauptstadt“ Andorra la Vella, die sich auch in der Länge hinzieht.
Die Durchgangsstraße durch das Land ist gesäumt von Supermärkten, in denen alles und noch viel mehr verkauft wird. Alkoholika, Tabakwaren und spanische Spezialitäten sind offenbar die Renner. Vieles ist extrem billig, weil steuerfrei. Die Kraftstoffpreise sind mit Abstand die niedrigsten in Europa. Die Tankstellen in Andorra mit seinen 65.000 Einwohnern würden vermutlich für ganz Berlin reichen. Andorra ist nicht Mitglied der Europäischen Union, also EU-Ausland. Mit den französischen Zöllnern (bzw. in der anderen Richtung mit den spanischen) muss gerechnet werden.
Der Womo-Führer „Pyrenäen“ empfiehlt mehrere Wohnmobil-Stellplätze außerhalb der Hauptstadt. Wir fahren den ersten an und werden freundlich abgewiesen. Der gesamte riesige Parkplatz und alle umliegenden Flächen werden gerade geschlossen, alle Fahrzeuge verlassen den Bereich. Hier wird das Zentrum des Ski-Zirkus für den Worldcup aufgebaut, der an den folgenden beiden Tagen stattfindet. Die zweite Empfehlung ist auch schon gesperrt. Der dritte empfohlene Stellplatz liegt am Scheitelpunkt des mit 2.400 m höchsten Pyrenäenpasses.
Exhausting Andorra
Those who are looking for adventure, will definitely be found by it. On the way from Eastern Spain back to Germany, of course, we have to cross the Pyrenees. We decide on the route through the dwarf state of Andorra.
From afar we have seen the Pyrenees as a mountain range and the high altitude covered in snow. But now we are heading for a huge, jagged rock barrier that hides the mountain range. Surprisingly, there is a road that winds through it.
And then we drive into a sea of houses, which runs up the steep slopes of a ravine to the left and right, densely packed, with many skyscrapers, in between construction cranes. It is the „capital“ Andorra la Vella, which also stretches in length.
The thoroughfare across the country is lined with supermarkets selling everything and much more. Alcoholics, tobacco and Spanish specialties are obviously the bestsellers. Many goods are extremely cheap because tax-free. Fuel prices are by far the lowest in Europe. The gas stations in Andorra with its 65,000 inhabitants would presumably last for all of Berlin. Andorra is not a member of the European Union, i.e. EU foreign country. The French customs officers (or in the other direction the Spanish) must be expected.
The camper guide „Pyrenees“ recommends several camper pitches outside the capital. We drive to the first one and are friendly dismissed. The entire huge parking lot and all surrounding areas are being closed, all vehicles leave the area. Here, the center of the ski circus for the World Cup is built, which takes place on the following two days. The second recommendation is already blocked. The third recommended pitch is at the apex of the highest Pyrenean Pass at 2,400m.
Der Platz ist nur zu einem kleinen Teil vom hohen Schnee geräumt, Räumfahrzeuge belegen die Hälfte davon. Um 18 Uhr ist hier die Temperatur auf -4°C gesunken, in der Ferne fegt der Wind dicke Schneewolken heran. Die Entscheidung fällt leicht: Lieber weiter. An der Tankstelle hier oben füllen wir unseren Dieseltank, und dann kurven wir die Passstraße hinab nach Frankreich. Die französischen Zöllner sind offenbar schon im Wochenende.
Bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit haben wir in L´Hospitalet den perfekt eingerichteten, offiziellen Wohnmobil-Stellplatz erreicht. Am folgenden Morgen fällt eine ordentliche Packung Schnee. Die Fahrzeuge in Richtung Andorra fahren mit Schneeketten, in unserem Wohnmobil ist es angenehm warm.
The place is cleared of the high snow only in a small part, clearing vehicles occupy half of it. At 6 p.m. the temperature has dropped to -4 °C, in the distance the wind sweeps thick snow clouds. The decision is easy: better continue. At the gas station up here we fill our diesel tank, and then we drive down the pass road to France. The French customs officers are apparently already in the weekend.
At nightfall we have reached the perfectly equipped, official camper site in L’Hospitalet. The following morning, a decent pack of snow falls. The vehicles in the direction of Andorra drive with snow chains, in our motorhome it is pleasantly warm.
