Bald nach Überschreiten der Grenze von Alaska (USA) nach British Columbia (Kanada) ändert sich das Landschaftsbild. Die Berge liegen nicht mehr nur links und rechts in der Ferne. Wir fahren durch sie hindurch. Die Vegetation ist karg: Tundra. Keine Nadel- oder Espen- und Birkenwälder, wie entlang des Highway von Haines bis in die Grenzregion.
From Alaska to the north
Soon after crossing the border from Alaska (USA) to British Columbia (Canada), the landscape changes. The mountains are no longer just left and right in the distance. We drive through them. The vegetation is sparse: tundra. No pine or aspen and birch forests, as along the highway from Haines to the border region.
Zunächst geht es noch auf und ab, aber dann fahren wir auf einer Hochebene. Mitten in dieser weiten, offenen Landschaft finden wir kurz vor Einbruch der Dunkelheit einen Stellplatz etwa fünfzig Meter abseits der Straße.
First we still go up and down, but then we ride on a high plateau. In the middle of this wide, open landscape we find a pitch about fifty meters away from the road just before nightfall.
