Nachdem wir im Frühling eine kleine Tour durch Nordwestdeutschland gemacht haben, starten wir Ende September eine Reise durch die Südhälfte Deutschlands. Wir wollen (nicht nur) einige der schönsten deutschen Wälder sehen.
Publikationen vom „alternativen Förster“ Peter Wohlleben haben uns verstärkt auf naturnahe Wälder aufmerksam gemacht. Das mit ansprechenden Fotos illustrierte Buch „Wilde Wälder in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz“ informiert über Naturparks, Biosphärenreservate und Nationalparks mit besonderen Wäldern. Es benennt auch konkrete Orte, die wir gezielt aufsuchen können. Und dann haben wir da noch ein paar eigene Ideen für „Locations“.
Nach unserer kleinen Tour durch die Ost-Schweiz sind wir nördlich vom Bodensee angekommen. Bei Ostrach im Landkreis Sigmaringen finden wir den Bannwald Pfrunger-Burgweiler-Ried, den größten Bannwald Baden-Württembergs und eine der größten Moorlandschaften Deutschlands. Bannwälder sind in Baden-Württemberg Totalreservate, in denen jegliche Nutzung verboten ist. Dieses Ried / Moor und der Wald waren bis in die 1970er Jahre intensiv genutzt, inzwischen ist das Ried wiedervernässt.
Am Beginn des Wanderweges ist ein 38,8 m hoher Aussichtsturm errichtet, der Bannwaldturm. Von ihm haben wir eine schöne Aussicht auf den äußeren Bereich des Gebiets. In der Ferne sind sogar die Alpen erkennbar. Um Störungen von Flora und Fauna zu minimieren, sind Wege durch das Gebiet vorgegeben, u.A. Holzbohlenwege durch das Moor bis zum Torfstichsee.
Banned forest
After we did a small tour through northwest Germany in spring, we start a journey through the southern half of Germany at the end of September. We want to see (not only) some of the most beautiful German woods.
Publications by the (German) „alternative forester“ Peter Wohlleben have drawn our attention to near-natural forests. The book „Wild forests in Germany, Austria and Switzerland“, illustrated with appealing photos, provides information about nature parks, biosphere reserves and national parks with special forests. It also names specific places that we can specifically visit. And then we have a few ideas of our own for locations.
After our little tour through Eastern Switzerland, we arrived north of Lake Constance. Near Ostrach in the Sigmaringen district we find the Pfrunger-Burgweiler-Ried banned forest, the largest banned forest in Baden-Württemberg and one of the largest moorlands in Germany. Banned forests are total reserves in Baden-Württemberg in which any use is prohibited. This reed / moor and the forest were used intensively until the 1970s, but the reed has now been rewetted.
At the beginning of the hiking trail there is a 38.8 m high observation tower, the Banned Forest Tower. From there we have a beautiful view of the outer area. In the distance you can even see the Alps. In order to minimize disturbances to flora and fauna, there are given routes through the area, including wooden plank paths through the moor to the peat cutting lake.
