Bevor wir das Donaudelta zu sehen bekommen, türmen sich vor uns Berge auf. Der Grund, dass das Delta sich nicht weiter nach Süden ausdehnt, sind die Berge von Măcin. Während das Donaudelta mit knapp 10.000 Jahren das jüngste Gebiet Europas ist, sind diese Berge eines der ältesten Gebirge der Welt. Im Nationalpark Berge von Măcin (Parcul Naţional Munţii Măcinului) machen wir auf einem der gut markierten Wege eine kleine Wanderung. Oberhalb des Waldes stoßen wir auf schroffe Granitfelsen, von den wir eine schöne Aussicht haben.
Măcin Mountains Before we get to see the Danube Delta, mountains tower up in front of us. The reason that the delta does not extend further south are the Măcin mountains. While the Danube Delta is the youngest area in Europe at just under 10,000 years old, these mountains are one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. In the Măcin Mountains National Park (Parcul Naţional Munţii Măcinului), we take a short hike on one of the well-marked trails. Above the forest we come across rugged granite rocks from which we have a beautiful view.
