Bevor wir den eigentlichen Campo Imperatore erreichen, zieht sich ein Canyon durch die steppenartig karge Landschaft. Bei einem Parkplatz an der einzigen Straße durch das Gebiet gibt es mehrere Zugänge in die Schlucht. Sie ist offensichtlich auch Abflusskanal für Schmelzwasser der umliegenden Berge. Jetzt ist er als Wanderweg begehbar und sogar markiert. Der Grund des Canyon ist von Raureif bedeckt, stellenweise vereist. In einer kleine Höhle haben sich Eiszapfen gebildet.
