Die südöstlichste Ecke der Avalon-Halbinsel und Neufundlands ist Cape Race. Eine sehr lange Straße führt dorthin, die in der Straßenkarte als ganz feiner Strich eingezeichnet ist. Wir vermuten eine Schotterstraße und sind schon fast bereit, nicht hin zu fahren. Doch dann ist die erste Hälfte dieser Straße frisch asphaltiert. Die zweite ist zwar Schotter, aber auch neu. Also rollt das Wohnmobil sanft bis zum Kap. Die Fahrt hätte sich sogar bei schlechterer Straße gelohnt. Hier steht nicht nur ein schöner Leuchtturm mit einer der stärksten Lichter der Welt, das bei guter Sicht 80 km weit zu sehen ist. Und dann begeistert uns die Felsenküste, trotz bedecktem Himmel.
The southeastern corner of the Avalon Peninsula and Newfoundland is Cape Race. A very long road leads there, which is marked in the road map as a very fine line. We suspect a gravel road and are almost ready to not go there. But then the first half of this road is freshly asphalted. The second is gravel, but also new. So the motorhome rolls gently to the Cape. The trip would have been worthwhile even on a poorer road. Here is not only a beautiful lighthouse with one of the strongest lights in the world, which can be seen 80 km far in good visibility. And then we are thrilled by the rocky coast, despite the overcast sky.
