Nach sieben Wochen in Schottland sind wir auf dem Rückweg durch England. Das herrliche Spätsommerwetter hält nun schon mehr als eine Woche ununterbrochen an. Keswick im Lake District ist fest in der Hand des Wandertourismus. Am Sonntagnachmittag ist die Stadt ein Ameisenhaufen.
Gleich außerhalb, auf einem flachen Hügel, gibt es einen Steinkreis, den Castlerigg Stone Circle. Er ist nicht annähernd so beeindruckend, wie die Callanish Standing Stones auf der Isle of Lewis and Harris, aber doch recht ansehnlich. Im frühen Abendlicht, vor der Kulisse der wirklich hinreißenden Landschaft des Lake District, und mit nur wenigen Besuchern entfaltet sich eine besondere Atmosphäre. Immerhin ist es rund 4.500 Jahre her, dass Menschen diese Kultstätte errichtet haben.
After seven weeks in Scotland we are on our way back through England. The beautiful late summer weather has been lasting continuously for more than a week. Keswick in the Lake District is firmly in the hands of hiking tourism. On Sunday afternoon, the city is an anthill.
Just outside, on a flat hill, there is the Castlerigg Stone Circle. It is not nearly as impressive as the Callanish Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis and Harris, but quite considerable. In the early evening light, against the backdrop of the truly enchanting landscape of the Lake District, and with only a few visitors unfolds a special atmosphere. After all, it has been around 4,500 years since people erected this place of worship.
