In dem Dorf Chaniá im Nordosten der Insel steht eine frühchristliche Kirche aus dem 7. Jahrhundert. Oberhalb des Dorfs liegt auf einem Hügel der hübsche Ort Avlonári mit einer prächtigen Kirche. Sie wird überragt von einem wuchtigen Festungsturm.
Chaniá and Avlonári The landscape of Euboea is exceptionally beautiful. But there are also pretty villages and historic buildings. In the village of Chaniá, in the north-east of the island, stands an early Christian church from the 7th century. Above the village lies on a hill the pretty place Avlonári with a magnificent church. It is surmounted by a massive fortress tower.
