Jugendstil ist in Barcelona vielfach präsent, und die Hauptstadt Kataloniens ist ein Mekka für diese Kunstrichtung, die hier katalanische Modernisme genannt wird. Sie unterscheidet sich tatsächlich von Jugendstil an anderen Orten, wie z.B. Prag, wo er auch verbreitet ist.
Ein wichtiger Förderer dieser Kunst und ihrer Künstler war um die Wende vom 19. zum 20. Jahrhundert der Industrielle Eusebi Güell. Er verlegte seine Textilfabrik von Barcelona in die Gegend von Sant Boi de Llobregat, das heute im Speckgürtel Barcelonas liegt. Neben der Fabrik ließ er eine Siedlung für seine Arbeiter errichten, die Colònia Güell. Dafür engagierte er mehrere führende Modernisme-Architekten. Sie schufen ein einzigartiges Dorf, bestehend aus vielen architektonisch reizvollen, sehr unterschiedlichen Gebäuden.
Wir haben großes Glück: Am Rand der Kolonie ist ein guter, gebührenfreier Wohnmobilstellplatz, und bei strahlendem Sonnenschein können wir ungestört die Atmosphäre dieses besonderen Ortes genießen.
Art Nouveau is present in Barcelona in many places, and the capital of Catalonia is a mecca for this art movement, here called Catalan Modernisme. It actually differs from Art Nouveau in other places, such as Prague, where it is also common.
An important patron of this art and its artists was the industrialist Eusebi Güell at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. He moved his textile factory from Barcelona to the area of Sant Boi de Llobregat, which lies in the surroundings of Barcelona. In addition to the factory, he had a settlement built for his workers, Colònia Güell. For this he engaged several leading Modernisme architects. They created a unique village consisting of many architecturally interesting, very different buildings.
We are very lucky: At the edge of the colony is a good, free camper site, and in bright sunshine, we can enjoy the atmosphere of this special place undisturbed.
