Vom Leuchttürmchen Toftir im Süden von Eysturoy fahren wir auf die andere Seite der Insel, Richtung Æðuvík. Die Straße ist sehr steil, nur zwei Meter breit, aber bestens asphaltiert, wie jede Straße auf den Färöern. Allerdings sind wir froh, dass uns kein Fahrzeug begegnet. Lediglich ein paar Schafe kreuzen unseren Weg. Die sehen hier nicht nur anders aus, als in Island. Sie verhalten sich auch anders. Die isländischen Schafe waren immer in letzter Sekunde auf der Flucht vor uns, gern auch im letzten Augenblick über die Straße. Die färöischen sind cool und fressen einfach weiter, direkt neben der Fahrbahn.
Cool sheep, crazy geese
From the small lighthouse Toftir in the south of Eysturoy we drive the other side of the island, in the direction toward Æðuvík. The road is very steep, only two metres wide, but very well paved, as every road on the Faroes. Indeed, we are glad that no vehicle meets us. Merely a few sheep cross our way. They look here not only differently, than in Iceland. They also behave differently. The Icelandic sheep were always in the last second on the run before us, often in the last moment over the street. The Faroese are cool and simply continue eating, directly beside the roadway.
Oben angekommen, zweigt eine Straße zu einem Windpark an der Südspitze der Insel ab. Dort sehen wir unweit der Straße Gänse, die wir fotografieren wollen. Sie entfernen sich nicht, wie wir das inzwischen von Gänsen gewohnt sind. Kaum sind wir ausgestiegen, kommen sie wie verrückt auf uns zu, sodass wir uns schnell wieder ins Wohnmobil „retten“. Vermutlich sind diese Gänse gewohnt, von Spaziergängern gefüttert zu werden.
On top, a road leads to a wind park at the south point of the island. There we see geese not far from the road whom we want to photograph. They do not go away as we are used to, in the meantime, from geese. Hardly we have got out, they come up to us, so that we „escape“ fast in the camper. These geese are presumably used to being fed by strollers.
Von Eystnes, der Südspitze Eysturoys, bietet sich uns ein besonders dramatischer Himmel über Vororten des gegenüber liegenden Tórshavn auf der Insel Streymoy. Offenbar sind solche Himmel nicht ungewöhnlich auf den Färöern.
From Eystnes, Eysturoy’s southern point, we see an especially dramatic sky above suburbs of the subtending Tórshavn on the island Streymoy. Such skies seem to be not unusual on the Faroes.
