Bei der Suche nach einem Übernachtungsplatz auf dem Weg von Moab nach Westen sind wir bei iOverlander auf einen Platz bei einem Geysir gestoßen. Den wollen wir sehen. Bei dem Ort Green River fahren wir durch bunte Badlands und über Salzflächen, bis wir den Fluss Green River erreichen. Am Flussufer breitet sich ein sehenswertes Feld mit gelben bis ockerfarbenen Sinterterrassen aus. Über der Austrittsöffnung des Geysir ist ein Rohr fixiert, vermutlich, um das austretende Wasser direkt nach oben zu lenken. Aus dem Loch plätschert Wasser, aber der Geysir ist ruhig.
Im Internet finden wir Informationen, dass dies kein geothermischer sondern ein Kaltwasser- / Kohlendioxid-Geysir ist. Er eruptiert bis zu 40 m oder höher, allerdings nur im Abstand von mal acht, mal 22 Stunden. Darauf wollen wir nicht warten, denn zum Übernachten finden wir den Platz weniger gut.
While looking for a place to spend the night on the way west from Moab, we came across a spot near a geyser on iOverlander. We want to see it. At the village of Green River, we drive through colourful badlands and across salt flats until we reach the Green River. A remarkable field of yellow to ochre-coloured sinter terraces stretches along the riverbank. A pipe is fixed above the outlet of the geyser, presumably to direct the escaping water straight upwards. Water gurgles out of the hole, but the geyser is quiet.
We find information on the internet that this is not a geothermal but a cold water / carbon dioxide geyser. It erupts up to 40 metres or higher, but only at intervals of sometimes eight, sometimes 22 hours. We don’t want to wait for that, because we like the place to spend the night less.
