Die Färinger behaupten, Tórshavn sei die kleinste Hauptstadt der Welt. Uns fällt es nicht schwer, das zu glauben. „Staus, Menschenmassen, überfüllte Busse – all das kann man vergessen.“ Der Reiseführer der Touristeninformation weist auf Parkbeschränkungen hin. Zum Beispiel ist die Parkdauer bei der Landesregierung auf 15 Minuten beschränkt. Keine Parkuhr, kein Parkautomat, schon gar keine Hochsicherheit.
Hier auf den Färöern kennt sicher Jeder Jeden. Rund 49.000 Einwohner hat das Land, etwa 12.400 davon leben in der „Kapitale“. Und wie auf den folgenden Bildern zu sehen, ist die Stadt ganz hübsch, besonders die Altstadt und das Regierungsviertel mit den roten Holzhäusern, am und im Hafen.
The smallest capital
The Faroese claim that Tórshavn is the smallest capital in the world. It is not hard for us to believe that. „Traffic jams, crowds, crowded buses – all that can be forgotten.“ The Tourist Information guide points to parking restrictions. For example, the parking duration is limited to 15 minutes at the regional government. No parking meter, no parking control, certainly no high security.
Here in the Faroe Islands everyone knows everybody. The country has about 49,000 inhabitants, about 12,400 of them live in the „capital“. And as can be seen in the following pictures, the city is very pretty, especially the old town and the government quarter with the red wooden houses, at and in the port.
