Wir bummeln am späten Nachmittag durch Reykjavík. Irgendwann fragen wir uns, warum immer mehr Menschen in Richtung Parlament / Konzerthaus eilen. Dann fällt der Groschen: Bestimmt gibt es ein Fanfest zur Fußball-Europameisterschaft. Da müssen wir hin.
Island hat sich zum ersten Mal für für die Endrunde der EM qualifiziert und inzwischen für das Achtelfinale. Um 19 Uhr wird das Spiel gegen England angepfiffen. Die Stadt ist voller isländischer Fähnchen. Aber es gibt auch wunderbare Signale der Fairness gegenüber den Engländern, z.B. in Schaufenstern.
Dann wird es ein großartiges Familienfest, emotional und sehr zivilisiert. Wir schätzen, dass mindestens 30 Tausend Isländer da sind, das ist etwa jeder zehnte. Eine Gruppe Polizisten und Polizistinnen steht mitten in der Zuschauermenge und fiebert mit. Und schließlich machen die isländischen Fußballer die Sensation perfekt und siegen mit 2:1.
Fan party for everybody
Late afternoon we stroll through Reykjavík. Eventually we wonder why more and more people rush into the direction parliament / concert house. Then we get it: Surely there is going to be a fan party for the european soccer championship. We’ve got to be there.
For the first time Iceland has qualified for the european championship and meanwile for the eighth final. At 7 p.m. the match versus England will be kicked off. The city is full of little icelandic flags. But there are also wonderful signs of fairness to the English e.g. in shop windows.
Then it becomes a great family party, emotional and very civilized. We estimate that at least 30 thousand Iclanders are there, that is approximately every tenth. A group of police men and women stand amidst the viewing crowd and fibers with them. And finally the icelandic soccer players make the sensation perfect and win with 2:1.
