Ein besonders hübsches Dorf ist Rimetea (auch Râmetea, deutsch: Eisenburg), knapp 60 km nördlich von Alba Iulia. Es liegt in einem Tal des Trascău-Gebirges, dem östlichsten Teil des Apuseni-Gebirges. Dieser Teil Siebenbürgens ist ungarisch geprägt und die überwiegende Bevölkerungsmehrheit spricht den ungarischen Szekler-Dialekt. Für sie heißt der Ort Torockó. Charakteristisch sind hier schmale, lange Häuser.
Rock of the Szeklers A particularly pretty village is Rimetea (also Râmetea, German: Eisenburg), just under 60 km north of Alba Iulia. It lies in a valley of the Trascău Mountains, the easternmost part of the Apuseni Mountains. This part of Transylvania has a Hungarian influence and the vast majority of the population speaks the Hungarian Szekler dialect. For them, the place is called Torockó. Narrow, long houses are characteristic here.
Die Hauptattraktion von Rimetea / Torockó ist der Piatra Secuiului (ungarisch: Székelykő), der Stein oder Felsen der Szekler. Der baumlose, langgestreckte Kalksteinfelsen, durch eine Schlucht unterbrochen, ist ein beliebtes Wander- und Kletterrevier. Auf einer anstrengenden Wanderung kommen wir ihm ein wenig näher.
The main attraction of Rimetea / Torockó is the Piatra Secuiului (Hungarian: Székelykő), the stone or rock of the Szeklers. The treeless, elongated limestone rock, interrupted by a ravine, is a popular hiking and climbing area. On a strenuous hike we get a little closer to it.
