Von Ísafjörður aus sind wir einen Fjord nach dem anderen entlang südostwärts gefahren, an einem Fjordufer nach Süden und am anderen wieder nach Norden. Über den Mjóifjörður gibt es einen Damm als Abkürzung. Im Vatnsfjörður genießen Seehunde das sommerliche Wetter und beobachten uns neugierig.
Firewater
From Ísafjörður we have driven along one fjord after the other southeast, at one fjord shore to the south, the other to the niorth again. Over the Mjóifjörður there is a dam as a shortcut. In the Vatnsfjörður seals enjoy the summerly weather and observe us with curiosity.
Der kleine Reykjarfjörður hat es uns angetan. Statt der asphaltierten Hauptstraße zu folgen, fahren wir die Schotterstraße am Westufer entlang. Die Sonne steht schon tief und das Licht ist traumhaft, als wir um 21:20 Uhr einen schönen Platz für unser Kopfkissen am Südende des Fjords finden. Und gegen 0:45 Uhr verwandelt die untergehende Sonne den „Rauchfjord“ in ein Feuermeer.
The small Reykjarfjörður has taken a shine to us. Instead of following the paved main road we drive along the gravel road at the western shore. The sun is low and the light is dreamlike when at 21:20 hours we find a beautiful place for our pillow at the southern end of the fjord. And about 0:45 hours the setting sun transforms the „Smokefjord“ into a sea of fire.
