An einem besonders schönen Abschnitt der spanischen Nordküste liegt Zumaia. Die Steilküste ist Teil des Geoparks der Baskischen Küste. An ihr tritt an verschiedenen Stellen das geologische Phänomen Flysh auf.
Eine schmale asphaltierte Straße führt westlich von Zumaia zum Park- und Picknickplatz Elorriaga, unser Stellplatz für die Nacht. Ein langer Wanderweg entlang der Küste passiert diesen Platz. Wir nehmen den Weg, der quer dazu bergab zu einem Aussichtspunkt führt. Hier haben wir weite Ausblicke nach beiden Seiten entlang der Steilküste. Ein kurzes Stück Weg müssen wir wieder zurück, um einen Serpentinenweg zu erreichen, auf dem wir hinab zum Atlantik wandern. Und dann sind wir mitten drin im Flysh.
Zumaia is located on a particularly beautiful stretch of Spain’s north coast. The cliff is part of the Basque Coast Geopark. The geological phenomenon flysh occurs at various points along the coast.
A narrow asphalt road leads west of Zumaia to the Elorriaga park and picnic area, our pitch for the night. A long hiking trail along the coast passes this site. We take the path that leads across it downhill to a viewpoint. Here we have wide views to both sides along the cliff. We have to go back a short way to reach a serpentine path on which we walk down to the Atlantic Ocean. And then we are in the middle of the flysh.
