Los Escullos im Parque Natural Cabo de Gato-Nijar hat eine sehr alte aus Eierstein (Oolith) bestehende Düne. Laut Wikipedia ist Oolith „ein Sedimentgestein, das aus kleinen Mineralkügelchen (Ooiden) besteht, die durch ein kalkiges oder toniges Bindemittel verkittet sind.“ Wäre dies nur eine versteinerte Düne, wäre es ein langweiliger, großer Klumpen. Was die Düne sehenswert macht, ist die Tatsache, dass sie vom Salzwasser des Mittelmeers skurril ausgewaschen ist.
Fossil oolitic dune
Los Escullos in the Parque Natural Cabo de Gato-Nijar has a very old dune made of oolite. According to Wikipedia, oolite is ‘a sedimentary rock consisting of small mineral spheres (ooids) cemented together by a calcareous or clayey binder.’ If this were just a fossilised dune, it would be a boring, large lump. What makes the dune worth seeing is the fact that it has been bizarrely washed out by the salt water of the Mediterranean Sea.
