Bei Puerto Alegre, nördlich von La Rioja, wird in der Ferne neben der Straße besonders viel Staub aufgewirbelt, eskortiert von Polizei mit Blaulicht. Es dauert ein wenig, bis wir realisieren, dass hier nicht nur ein paar Gauchos unterwegs sind. Es ist ein ganzer Treck von vielen Gruppen und Einzelreitern. Vorne weg wird eine Madonnenstatue getragen, dahinter eine von Gaucho Gil, der in Argentinien wie ein Heiliger verehrt wird. Weder Zweck noch Ziel des Trecks sind für uns erkennbar. An Sammelpunkten kommt er zum Stehen, weitere Reiter schließen sich hier an. Als einige uns mit den Kameras sehen, wollen sie unbedingt fotografiert werden.
Gaucho trek
Near Puerto Alegre, north of La Rioja, there is a lot of dust in the distance next to the road, escorted by police with blue lights. It takes us a little while to realise that it’s not just a few gauchos on the road here. It is a whole trek of many groups and individual riders. A statue of the Madonna is carried in front, behind it one of Gaucho Gil, who is revered like a saint in Argentina. Neither the purpose nor the destination of the trek is visible to us. It comes to a halt at assembly points, and other riders join it here. When some see us with the cameras, they are desperate to be photographed.
