Bei den hübschen alten Dörfern Sasso Pisano und Monterotondo Marittima, etwa 40 km nordöstlich von Piombino, kocht und zischt es aus den Bergen der Toskana. Hier tritt sehr heißes Wasser an die Erdoberfläche und wird zur Stromerzeugung genutzt. Die Szenerie erinnert uns an Krafla in Island. Gelegentlich sehen wir aufgegebene Bohrlöcher, die heftig dampfen, wo sich kleine Gysire gebildet haben oder spritzende Schlammlöcher.
Geothermal energy in Tuscany Near the pretty old villages Sasso Pisano and Monterotondo Marittima, about 40 km northeast of Piombino, the mountains of Tuscany cook and hiss. Here very hot water exits the earth’s surface and is used to generate electricity. The scenery reminds us of Krafla in Iceland. Occasionally we see abandoned drilled holes that steam vigorously, where small geysirs have formed, or splashing mud holes.
