Die Landschaft Ålands ist wesentlich geprägt von rötlichem Granit. An vielen Stellen liegen die nackten Felsen offen. Häufig sind das von Gletschern und vom Meer rund und glatt geschliffene Flächen. Ähnlich wie an Schwedens „Höga Kusten“ hebt sich das Land wieder, seit die Last des Eises der letzten großen Eiszeit abgetaut ist. Im Nordwesten der großen zusammenhängenden Landmasse Ålands, bei Dånö, liegt der alte Hafen von Geta. Seine Bootsrampe ist der glatte rötliche Fels.
The landscape of Åland is mainly characterized by reddish granite. In many places the bare rocks lie open. Often the round and smooth surface is ground by glaciers and the sea. Similar to Sweden’s „Höga Kusten“, the country is rising again since the load of the ice of the last great ice age has been thawed. In the north-west of the large contiguous land mass of Åland, near Dånö, lies the old harbor of Geta. Its boat ramp is the smooth reddish rock.
