Wir sind nochmal in den Westen Neufundlands gefahren, in den Gros Morne National Park, westlich von Deer Lake. Die kanadischen Nationalparks haben eine gute Infrastruktur, z.B. gut markierte Wanderwege und Wanderparkplätze mit bärensicheren Mülltonnen. Dafür wird in jedem Park eine Eintrittsgebühr erhoben. Aber es ist nicht verboten, wie wir es aus europäischen Schutzgebieten kennen, über Nacht zu campen. Wir haben uns schon im Terra Nova NP Jahreskarten für alle kanadischen Nationalparks gekauft. Der Eintritt, den wir im Cape Breton Highlands NP bezahlt haben, wurde sogar voll verrechnet. Die so genannten Discoverer Cards müssen nur an den Innenspiegel des Fahrzeugs gehängt werden und wir haben in jedem Nationalpark freie Fahrt. Das gilt auch für Nationale Historische Einrichtungen, wie z.B. Cape Spear.
Der ausgedehnte Gros Morne National Park ist so etwas wie das Aushängeschild der Insel und besteht aus sehr verschiedenartigen Landschaften und Vegetationszonen. Er gilt als eine der landschaftlich reizvollsten Gegenden Nordamerkas und ist Unesco Welterbe. Ein Bereich von großer geologischer Bedeutung sind die Tablelands. Hier liegt der Erdmantel offen zu Tage.
We drove again to the west of Newfoundland, to the Gros Morne National Park, west of Deer Lake. The Canadian National Parks have good infrastructure, e.g. well-marked hiking trails and hiking car parks with bear-proof garbage cans. For this, an entrance fee is charged in each park. But it is not forbidden, as we know it from European protected areas, to camp overnight. We have already bought annual tickets for all Canadian national parks in the Terra Nova NP. The entry we paid at Cape Breton Highlands NP was even fully deducted. The so-called Discoverer Cards just have to be hung on the inside mirror of the vehicle and we have free travel in every National Park. This also applies to National Historic Sites, such as Cape Spear. The extensive Gros Morne National Park is somehow the flagship of the island and consists of very diverse landscapes and vegetation zones. It is considered one of the most scenic areas of North America and is Unesco World Heritage. An area of great geological importance are the tablelands. Here the earth’s mantle is open to the light.
Südlich jenseits Tablelands breitet sich der Trout River Pond aus, der alles andere als ein Teich (pond) ist. Der große, langgestreckte, malerische See ist von hohen Bergen umgeben und fließt über den Trout River ins Meer ab.
South of Tablelands spreads the Trout River Pond, which is anything but a pond. The large, elongated, picturesque lake is surrounded by high mountains and flows over the Trout River into the sea.
