44 Tage waren wir unterwegs mit Hin- und Rückflug, vom 19. Oktober bis zum 1. Dezember. 5 1/2 Wochen sind wir mit einem gemieteten Wohnmobil über beide neuseeländischen Inseln gefahren. Und wie hier zu verfolgen war, haben unsere besten Erlebnisse dieser 38 Tage uns zu 77 Blogbeiträgen inspiriert (einschließlich diesem Rückblick).
Unser Reiseführer titelt: „Am schönsten Ende der Welt“. Dem stimmen wir zu. Für Menschen, die Natur und sensationell schöne und fast menschenleere Landschaften mögen, ist Neuseeland ein Traum.
Inspirational New Zealand
44 days we were on the way with return flight, from 19 October to 1 December. 5 1/2 weeks we drove with a rented motorhome on both New Zealand islands. And as can be seen here, our best experiences of these 38 days have inspired us to 77 blog posts (including this review).
Our travel guide headlines: „At the most beautiful end of the world“. We agree. For people who like nature and sensationally beautiful and almost deserted landscapes, New Zealand is a dream.
Die Nordinsel hat viele landschaftliche Highlights, die Südinsel ist noch deutlich spektakulärer. Aber Natur und Landschaften sind längst nicht alles, was das Land zu bieten hat.
The North Island has many scenic highlights, the South Island is even more spectacular. But nature and landscapes are by far not all that the country has to offer.
Die Neuseeländer, die sich selbst Kiwis nennen, sind sehr entspannt, außerordentlich (gast)freundlich und sehr multikulturell. Anders als z.B. die Aboriginies in Australien haben in Neuseeland die Maori heute einen vergleichsweise guten Status, ihre Sprache ist neben Englisch und neuseeländischer Gebärdensprache offizielle Landessprache, ihre Kultur wird geachtet und wertgeschätzt. Ansonsten ist das Land kulturell stark britisch geprägt, die Südinsel zum Teil schottisch. Außerdem gibt es eine erhebliche Anzahl Migranten aus aller Welt, insbesondere aus Asien. Diese Vielfalt ist offizielles Programm und gelebter Alltag. Auf dieser Basis werden ausländische Touristen offenbar nicht als fremd wahrgenommen.
The New Zealanders, who call themselves Kiwis, are very relaxed, extremely hospitable, friendly and very multicultural. Unlike e.g. the Aboriginies in Australia the Maori in New Zealand have a comparatively good status, their language is the official language next to English and New Zealand sign language, their culture is respected and valued. Otherwise, the country is culturally strongly British shaped, the South Island partly Scottish. There are also a significant number of migrants from all over the world, especially from Asia. This diversity is an official program and lived everyday life. On this basis, foreign tourists are apparently not perceived as foreign.
Das neuseeländische Klima ist ähnlich wie in weiten Teilen Europas, die Jahreszeiten sind gegensätzlich zu unseren. Im ganzen Land gibt es keine gefährlichen Wildtiere. Nervig sind Sandfliegen, insbesondere an Stränden, die sind wohl schon die schrecklichsten ‚Ungeheuer‘. Die größte Gefahr in Neuseeland sind vermutlich Vulkanismus und Erdbeben.
The New Zealand climate is similar to much of Europe, the seasons are contrary to ours. There are no dangerous wildlife in the country. Annoying are sand flies, especially on beaches, probably already the most terrible ‚monsters‘. The biggest danger in New Zealand is probably volcanism and earthquakes.
Beide Inseln sind überwiegend bergig oder hügelig, mit wenigen Ausnahmen. Entsprechend sind die meisten Straßen kurvig, sehr schmal und sie folgen viel mehr der Landschaft als in Europa. Außerdem entsprechen die neuseeländischen Straßen nicht den aus Mitteleuropa gewohnten Standards. Auch Schotterstraßen kommen vor. Autobahnen gibt es nur kurze Abschnitte in den Ballungszentren von Auckland und Wellington auf der Nordinsel. Fahrzeiten sind daher stets deutlich länger, als für gleich lange Strecken in Mittel- und Nordeuropa.
Dennoch halten wir das Straßennetz für völlig hinreichend. Ein Land von 75% der Größe Deutschlands mit 5,6% dessen Bevölkerung kann sich vermutlich nicht leisten, den Weg zu jeder Milchkanne zu asphaltieren.
Both islands are mostly mountainous or hilly, with few exceptions. Accordingly, most of the roads are winding, very narrow and they follow much more of the landscape than in Europe. In addition, the roads of New Zealand do not meet the accustomed standards of Central Europe. Gravel roads also occur. There are only short sections of expressways in the metropolitan areas of Auckland and Wellington on the North Island. Travel times are therefore always significantly longer than for equally long distances in Central and Northern Europe.
Nevertheless, we consider the road network to be completely adequate. A country of 75% the size of Germany with 5.6% of its population can probably not afford to pave the way to each milk can.
An manchen Tagen haben wir auf den Straßen mehr Wohnmobile gesehen, als andere Fahrzeuge. Das Land ist bestens auf Motorhome Tourismus eingestellt, die Infrastruktur dafür ist hervorragend. Neuseeland ist vermutlich das Wohnmobil-Land. Und die Versorgung mit Lebensmitteln war selbst in entlegenen Gebieten besser, als z.B. im schottischen Hochland.
On some days we saw more campers on the roads than other vehicles. The country is well prepared for Motorhome tourism, the respective infrastructure is excellent. New Zealand is probably the camper country. And the food supply was better even in remote areas than e.g. in the Scottish Highlands.
Die An- und Rückreise sind sehr lang, ohne Unterbrechung von mindestens einem Tag sehr anstrengend! Allein die Flug-Etappe Dubai – Sydney dauerte 14 Stunden, auf dem Rückflug mit der Erddrehung war dabei ununterbrochen Nacht. Aber für uns war Neuseeland die Anstrengung wert.
The arrival and return travel are very long, very exhausting without interruption of at least one day! The flight stage Dubai – Sydney lasted 14 hours alone, on the return flight with the earth’s rotation we had night uninterrupted. But for us New Zealand was worth the effort
