Beim Bau der Verbotenen Stadt wurde gleich nördlich von ihr mit dem Aushub des Wallgrabens ein Hügel aufgeschüttet. An seinem Fuß wurden Kohlen gelagert, daher die Bezeichnung Kohlehügel. Auf seinem Gipfel steht eine Pagode. Auf dem Weg zum Hügel wird Frau Rumkommer von einer Gruppe von vier ansteckend fröhlichen, jungen Chinesinnen angesprochen und um ein gemeinsames Foto gebeten. Unterhalb des Gipfels kann man in traditionellen Gewändern als Kaiser, Kaiserin etc. für Fotos posieren.
Coal Hill
In the construction of the Forbidden City, a hill was piled up just north of it with the excavation of the moats. At its foot coal was stored, hence the name Coal Hill. There is a pagoda on its summit. On the way to the hill, Mrs. Roundgetter is approached by a group of four infectiously cheerful young Chinese women and asked for a joint photo. Below the summit, one can pose for photos in traditional robes as emperor, empress, etc.
Von der Pagode aus haben wir einen grandiosen Blick über die goldenen Dächer der Verbotenen Stadt. Nach Nordwesten blicken wir auf das moderne Beijing, nach Norden geht der Blick über den Kinderpalast zum Trommelturm und zum Glockenturm, der dahinter fast nur zu ahnen ist.
From the pagoda we have a magnificent view over the golden roofs of the Forbidden City. To the north-west we see the modern Beijing, to the north the view over the Children’s Palace to the Drum Tower and the Bell Tower, which is almost only to be guessed behind.
