Von Daugavpils in Lettland kommend sind wir in den Osten Litauens weiter gereist. Im Aukštaitija Nationalpark besuchen wir den Hügel Ladakalnis, der in früheren Zeiten der litauischen Göttin der Erde, Lada, geweiht war. Am Weg und an den Bänken unterhalb des Gipfels stehen große Holzschnitzereien. Ganz oben steht eine hölzerne Statue der Göttin. Die Litauer sind Katholiken, aber sie besinnen sich zunehmend auf ihre alten Gottheiten, was wohl der nationalen Identität dient. Einen Stein auf den Hügel zu mitzunehmen, soll Glück bringen. Einige Menschen hatten wohl besonders viel Glück nötig und haben Ziegelsteine und Mauerwerk her gebracht. Von dem Hügel haben wir eine herrliche Aussicht über mehrere Seen im Nationalpark.
Coming from Daugavpils in Latvia we traveled on to the east of Lithuania. In Aukštaitija National Park we visit the Ladakalnis hill, which was consecrated to the Lithuanian goddess of the earth, Lada, in earlier times. There are large wood carvings at the path and on the benches below the summit. At the top is a wooden statue of the goddess. The Lithuanians are Catholics, but they increasingly remember their ancient deities, which arguably serves the national identity. Taking a stone up the hill is said to bring good luck. Some people needed particularly much luck and brought up bricks and masonry. From the hill we have a wonderful view over several lakes in the national park.
