Die Gebäude, die überall auf Santorini auffallen, sind die hunderte Kirchen und Kapellen mit ihren leuchtend weißen, gelben oder blauen Kuppeln. Sie stehen nur Kirchen und Kapellen zu. Nur wenige davon sind Gemeindekirchen. Die meisten sind in Privatbesitz. Lediglich am Patronatstag des Heiligen, dessen Namen sie tragen, werden sie für einen Kirchweihfest-Gottesdienst geöffnet.
Ein paar besonders schöne Kapellen haben wir in der Umgebung von Akrotíri im Südwesten der Insel fotografiert. Die erste scheint aus dem umgebenden Erdreich heraus geschnitzt zu sein. Die zweite, die Agía Paraskeví, mit der hellblauen Kuppel, liegt am Weg zum Kámbia Beach.
Bright domes
The buildings that stand out everywhere on Santorini are the hundreds of churches and chapels with their bright white, yellow or blue domes. These are only entitled to churches and chapels. Only a few of them are parish churches. Most are privately owned. Only on the patron saint’s day, whose name they bear, they are opened for a church consecration festival service.
We photographed a few especially beautiful chapels in the area of Akrotíri in the southwest of the island. The first seems to be carved out of the surrounding soil. The second, the Agía Paraskeví, with the light blue dome, is located on the way to Kámbia Beach.
Etwas abseits der Straße zum Leuchtturm an der südwestlichen Spitze der Insel liegt neben einem farbenfrohen Blumengarten die Panagía Theosképasti mit leuchtend tiefblauer Kuppel. Sie hat ein besonders auffälliges Nebengebäude.
A bit off the road to the lighthouse on the southwestern tip of the island, next to a colorful flower garden, is the Panagía Theosképasti, with its bright deep blue dome. It has a particularly eye-catching outbuilding.
Am Abend illuminiert das von der tief stehenden Sonne golden leuchtende Mittelmeer die Panagía Kalamiótissa, nicht weit vom Leuchtturm.
In the evening, the Mediterranean shining golden from the low sun illuminates the Panagia Kalamiótissa, not far from the lighthouse.
