Little Salmon Lake

About halfway between Carmacks and Faro lies the 32 km long Little Salmon Lake, which feeds the Little Salmon River. At its western end is a public campground. From the Campbell Highway we drive a few hundred meters on a very worrying bad gravel road quite steeply downhill. At the bottom on the shore of the lake lies a dream of a campsite.

The threatening, dark cloud over the lake has only brought a brief shower. Then the sky shines, with a few small clouds for decoration. In the evening Mrs. Roundgetter wants romance. So she gets her camp fire.

On public campgrounds each pitch / tent pitch is equipped with table and benches as well as a fire ring. This is an approx. 30 cm high, open, thick-walled barrel with air holes at the lower end and a grill grate at the top. In one or more covered boxes, sawed logs are available as firewood for the entire campground.

Since we do not have an ax on board, we have to choose the smallest wooden blocks. Canadians and Americans, of course, have an ax. One of our ’neighbors‘, whose fire is already blazing, comes and offers us his ax. But this is not necessary anymore.
