Von Guilin fliegen wir nach Hangzhou, Hauptstadt der Provinz Zhejiang, rund 190 km südwestlich von Shanghai. Die Sechs-Millionen-Stadt hat in China den Nimbus gehobener Lebenskultur, und die Landschaft an ihrem Westsee gilt als Synomym für Romantik. Aus unserem Zimmer im 13. Stockwerk des Hotels haben wir eine gute Aussicht über Teile der Stadt.
Medicine and lace
From Guilin we fly to Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, about 190 km southwest of Shanghai. The six-million city has the nimbus of elevated life culture in China, and the landscape at its West Lake is regarded a synonym for romance. From our room on the 13th floor of the hotel, we have a good view over parts of the city.
Die Frau, die uns hier begleitet, ca. vierzig Jahre alt, ist angenehm gelassen, dabei sehr präsent und kenntnisreich, und sie spricht erstaunlich gut deutsch. Mit ihr besuchen wir das Museum für Traditionelle Chinesische Medizin. Dem Museum angeschlossen ist die berühmte Hu Qingyu – Apotheke für traditionelle chinesische Arzneimittel (erbaut 1874). Hier werden aus praktisch Allem, das die Natur hervorbringt, Rezepte zusammengestellt, und das in großen Mengen.
The woman, who accompanies us here, about forty years old, is pleasantly relaxed, at the same time very present and knowledgeable, and she speaks astonishingly good German. With her we visit the Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Connected to the museum is the famous Hu Qingyu Pharmacy for traditional Chinese medicines (built in 1874). Here, from practically everything that nature brings forth, recipes are put together, in large quantities.
In einer nahegelegenen Fußgängerzone kann man alles kaufen, was der chinesische Tourist als Souvenir benötigt. Da gibt es Geschäfte, die ausschließlich Essstäbchen aus edlen Materialien führen, andere feinste Fächer oder Sonnenhüte. Wieder andere sind voll von Sonnenschirmen aus Spitze.
In a nearby pedestrian zone you can buy everything the Chinese tourist needs as a souvenir. There are shops, which sell exclusively chopsticks made of noble materials, others finest fans or sun hats. Still others are full of parasols from lace.
