Auf dem Weg von Dunedin nach Norden waren wir schon fast in Moeraki. Aber wegen des Dauerregens sind wir bei Shag Point, nur wenige Kilometer vor dem Ziel, umgekehrt und ins Landesinnere nach St Bathans gefahren. Das hat sich als sehr gute Entscheidung heraus gestellt. Wir wollen aber immer noch die berühmten Moeraki Boulders sehen! Also machen wir auf dem Weg nach Christchurch noch einen großen Umweg.
Nur Nieselregen begleitet uns diesmal, aber selbst bei nicht so gutem Wetter sind die Boulders beeindruckend. Ach was, sie sind sensationell!
On the way from Dunedin to the north we have been almost in Moeraki. But because of the constant rain, at Shag Point, just a few kilometers from the destination, we turned back and drove inland to St Bathans. That turned out to be a very good decision. But we still want to see the famous Moeraki Boulders! So we make a big detour on the way to Christchurch.
Only drizzle accompanied us this time, but even in not so good weather, the Boulders are impressive. Oh no, they are sensational!
Live machen sie einfach noch viel mehr her, als auf Fotos. Viele sind groß und wirklich kugelrund. Über einen langen Bereich des Strandes sind sie verteilt, viele, vereinzelte und ganze Ansammlungen. Manche sind aufgebrochen und es ist zu ahnen, dass sie tatsächlich organischen Ursprungs sind. Immer noch gibt die Wand aus Erdreich hinter dem Strand weitere Boulders frei.
Live, they just make a lot more than in photos. Many are big and globated. They are distributed over a long stretch of the beach, many, scattered and whole accumulations. Some have broken up and it is to guess that they are indeed of organic origin. The wall of dirt behind the beach still releases more boulders.
Abends haben wir einen besonders schönen Stellplatz etwas südlich von Moeraki, gleich abseits des State Highway 1, am Katiki Beach. Der Sonnenaufgang dort ist fantastisch, aber ein Hahn gibt auf dem Platz ein Frühkonzert mit vielen Zugaben. Immerhin sind wir auf diese Weise früh am Start.
In the evening we have a very nice parking space south of Moeraki, just off State Highway 1, on Katiki Beach. The sunrise there is fantastic, but a rooster gives an early-morning concert on the square with many encores. After all, this is how we start early.
Wir fahren nach Katiki Point bei Moeraki. Beim Leuchtturm in Holzbauweise ist ein Parkplatz. Unterhalb des Turms liegen Robben in den Felsen und am Strand. Zur Beobachtung der Robben sowie Gelbaugen-Pinguine gibt es eine Beobachtungshütte.
We drive to Katiki Point near Moeraki. At the lighthouse in timber construction there is a parking lot. Below the tower are seals in the rocks and on the beach. For observation of seals and yellow-eyed penguins, there is an observation hut.
Auf dem Rückweg zum Parkplatz beobachten die Pinguine uns (der Zaun soll sie vor übergriffigen Menschen schützen).
On the way back to the parking lot, the penguins watch us (the fence is supposed to protect them from violating people).
Und dann müssen wir nochmal zu den ‚Riesen-Billardkugeln‘.
And then we have to go to the ‚giant billiard balls‘ once more.
