Die drei größten Inseln Estlands liegen alle im Nordwesten des Landes. Muhu, die kleinste der drei, ist am schnellsten vom Festland aus erreichbar. Die Fähre von Virtsu nach Kuivastu fährt im Hochsommer dreimal stündlich und braucht kaum eine Stunde für die Überfahrt; die Tarife sind sehr günstig. Muhu gilt als die idyllischste Insel: Reet-gedeckte Häuser, viele aufwändig restauriert, und immer wieder uralte, dick grün bemooste Steinmauern schaffen eine romantische Stimmung.
The three largest islands in Estonia are all in the north-west of the country. Muhu, the smallest of the three, can be reached the quickest from the mainland. The ferry from Virtsu to Kuivastu runs three times an hour in midsummer and takes barely an hour for the crossing; the tariffs are very cheap. Muhu is considered the most idyllic island: thatched-roof houses, many of which have been lavishly restored, and ancient stone walls covered in thick green moss create a romantic atmosphere.
