To Milford Sound
Was the landscape at the Eglinton River already rough, this is enhanced as the route continues to Milford Sound. At the Kaka Creek Lookout, thick moss and lichen pads on the trees emphasize that there is plenty of moisture and rather little sunshine here.

We continue through snowy, rugged mountains. We pass the nearly 2,500 m high Mount Christina. The Hollyford River is now accompanying the highway.
Dann geht es einspurig, von Signalanlagen geregelt, durch den Homer Tunnel und in engen Serpentinen weiter abwärts. Wenig später ist Milford Sound erreicht, einer der touristischen Hotspots Neuseelands. Hier endet die Straße. Der Sound liegt, wie meistens, in Wolken, Dunst und Nebel.
Then it goes one-lane, regulated by signalling systems, through the Homer Tunnel and in narrow serpentines further down. A little later, Milford Sound is reached, one of New Zealand’s tourist hotspots. Here the road ends. The sound is, as usual, in clouds, haze and fog.
