Luossavaara, Kiruna

Kiruna is the northernmost city in Sweden and the largest municipality in the country. It extends to the Finnish and Norwegian borders. The urban Kiruna is just a small town. Its home mountain is the 720 m high Luossavaara, with ski slope and chairlift. About ten meters below the summit we have a pitch, exclusively for us. The mountain looks like split. It is not clear to us if one half is original mountain and the other is spoil pile. From the height we have a fantastic all-round view. Rudimentary it can be seen how much iron ore is being mined here. Now Kiruna itself is affected: some housing estates are already demolished, elsewhere Kiruna is rebuilt. The city is relocated to mine iron ore here as well.

At breakfast, a fascinating spectacle appears in the sky: clouds of fog are rising, over the city, too. Clouds pile up in the distance.
