Die vielen Wildtier-Sichtungen der ersten eineinhalb Tage im Etosha National Park übertreffen unsere kühnsten Erwartungen. Nun wollen wir noch weiter nach Westen in den Park fahren. Dort gibt es weitere natürliche Wasserstellen südlich der ausgedehnten Etosha-Pfanne.
Im hohen Gras neben der Straße äst eine kleine Gruppe Kuhantilopen. Etwas weiter knabbert ein Kudu an Kameldornbüschen. An der Wasserstelle Goas treffen wir am Morgen keine großen Tiere an. Perlhühner laufen hier umher, ein großer Strauch wimmelt von Webervögeln. Als wir von dort wieder in Richtung Namutoni fahren, ist die Straße von Schwarzgesicht-Impalas und den immer vergnügt wirkenden Springböcken okkupiert. Wir fahren extrem langsam, bleiben immer wieder stehen und können so die Tiere aus dem Fahrzeug fotografieren, ohne dass sie fliehen.

The many wildlife sightings of the first one and a half days in the Etosha National Park surpass our wildest expectations. Now we want to drive further west into the park. There are other natural water points south of the vast Etosha pan.
In the high grass next to the road a small group of Red hartebeest eats. A little further a Kudu nibbles on camel thorn bushes. At the water point Goas we do not meet any big animals in the morning. Helmeted guineafowl walk around here, a large shrub is teeming with Weaver birds. When we drive from there back towards Namutoni, the road is occupied by Blackfaced impala and the always happy-looking Springboks. We drive extremely slowly, stop over and over again and can take pictures of the animals from the vehicle without them fleeing.
Auf dem Weg nach Springbokfontein entdecken wir einen Sekretär, ein Greifvogel auf hohen Hacken. Die langen Beine ermöglichen ihm die Fortbewegung im hohen Gras. Geier entsorgen die Reste eines Kadavers. Den Horizont über der Salzpfanne bildet ein rosa Streifen aus unzähligen Flamingos.
On the way to Springbokfontein we discover a Secretary bird, a bird of prey on high heels. The long legs allow him to move around in the tall grass. Vultures dispose of the remains of a carcass. The horizon above the salt pan is a pink stripe of countless flamingos.
