Titus Canyon
Im Nordosten des Death Valley National Park führt von Nevada her eine 26 Meilen lange Allrad-Piste zum und durch den Titus Canyon. Die Route darf nur in dieser Richtung gefahren werden, denn der Canyon ist zu eng für Begegnungsverkehr. Die Quälerei auf der 42 km langen Rüttelstrecke sparen wir uns, denn am Ostausgang kann man parken und den Canyon zu Fuß erkunden. Schon das Kieselfeld des Abflusses lässt ein wenig erahnen, welche Wassermassen hier gelegentlich ausströmen. Im Canyon beeindrucken seine hohen Felswände, die an vielen Stellen mehrere Meter hoch glatt geschliffen sind.
In the north-east of Death Valley National Park, a 26-mile four-wheel drive track leads from Nevada to and through Titus Canyon. The route may only be driven in this direction, as the canyon is too narrow for passing traffic. We save ourselves the agony of the 42-kilometre-long jogging track because you can park at the east exit and explore the canyon on foot. Even the pebble field of the outflow gives a hint of the masses of water that occasionally flow out here. The high rock walls in the canyon are impressive, and in many places they are polished several metres high.
