Der Peipussee (Peipsi järv) ist der fünftgrößte See Europas, fast siebenmal so groß wie Deutschlands größter, der Bodensee. Die Grenze zwischen Estland und Russland verläuft durch den See. Er ist flach, dadurch erwärmt er sich im Sommer auf über 20°C. Nur am Nordufer gibt es Sandstrände, sonst sind die Ufer überwiegend mit Schilf bewachsen. Die Strände gehören zu den schönsten im Baltikum; wir haben so viele gesehen, dass wir das beurteilen können. Absolut niemand außer uns ist hier weit und breit. Es ist windstill, daher sind keine Wellen auf der großen Wasserfläche; sonst könnte man sie für ein Meer halten. Rückwärtig ist der Strand von Kiefern gesäumt, deren Wurzeln in den Dünen freigelegt sind.
Peipus beach Lake Peipus (Peipsi järv) is the fifth largest lake in Europe, almost seven times the size of Germany’s largest, Lake Constance. The border between Estonia and Russia runs through the lake. It is flat, which means that it warms up to over 20°C in summer. There are only sandy beaches on the north bank, otherwise the banks are mostly overgrown with reeds. The beaches are among the most beautiful in the Baltic States; we’ve seen so many that we can judge. Absolutely nobody but us is here far and wide. There is no wind, so there are no waves on the large body of water; otherwise one could take it for a sea. To the rear, the beach is lined with pine trees, the roots of which are exposed in the dunes.
