Der höchste Berg in der Serra de Monchique ist der Fóia. Er ist zwar populär aber mit mehr als 30 Antennenmasten und -türmen sowie weiteren Radareinrichtungen ist er nicht schön. Interessanter ist der zweithöchste Gipfel, der 756 m hohe Picota. Von dem Granitfelsen haben wir großartige Aussichten, unter Anderem auf den Odelouca-Stausee.
The highest mountain in the Serra de Monchique is Fóia. It is popular but with more than 30 antenna masts and towers and other radar installations, it is not pretty. More interesting is the second highest peak, the 756 m high Picota. From the granite rock we have great views, among others of the Odelouca reservoir.

2018 sind hier ganze Landstriche Opfer eines großen Feuers geworden. Viele Korkeichen sind ganz oder teilweise schwarz. Einige haben es nicht überlebt, obwohl die Korkrinde vermutlich der Brandschutz der Bäume ist. Profiteure des Feuers sind die Eukalypten, die hier eigentlich gar nicht hin gehören und vermutlich das nächste Feuer anheizen werden.
In 2018, whole swathes of land here fell victim to a large fire. Many cork oaks are completely or partially black. Some did not survive, although the cork bark is probably the trees‘ fire protection. The beneficiaries of the fire are the eucalypts, which don’t really belong here and will probably fuel the next fire.
