Auf der Fanad-Halbinsel wollen wir den Leuchtturm Fanad Head sehen, der spektakulär auf der zerklüfteten Felsküste steht. Und dann entdeckt Frau Rumkommer in der Straßenkarte den Eintrag eines Felsentors, das in der Nähe an der Küste im Meer steht und in unseren Reiseführern nicht erwähnt ist. Beim kleinen Dorf Pollet ist mit EU-Förderung eine gute Infrastruktur errichtet, sodass der „Große Bogen“ gut erreichbar ist. Der neue Parkplatz ist auch ein guter Übernachtungsplatz. Von hier gehen wir, der Beschilderung folgend, ein paar hundert Meter die Straße hinunter, dann auf einem Fußweg einen Hang hinab. Die Führung durch Holzzäune links und rechts ist perfekt. So können wir das Ziel nicht verfehlen. Dieses Felsentor ist wirklich sehenswert. Und ihm gegenüber, durch eine vom Meer angespülte Kieselhalde getrennt, stehen weitere sehenswerte Felsen im Wasser.
On the Fanad Peninsula we want to see the Fanad Head lighthouse, which stands spectacularly on the rugged rocky coast. And then Mrs Roundgetter discovers the entry of a rock gate in the road map, which stands nearby on the coast in the sea and is not mentioned in our travel guides. At the small village of Pollet, a good infrastructure has been built with EU funding, so that the „Great Arch“ is easily accessible. The new car park is also a good place to spend the night. From here, following the signs, we walk a few hundred metres down the road, then on a footpath down a slope. The guidance by wooden fences on the left and right is perfect. So we can’t miss the destination. This rock arch is really worth seeing. And opposite it, separated by a pebble pile washed up by the sea, are other rocks worth seeing in the water.
