Porpoise Bay

The Porpoise Bay is separated from the rocky Curio Bay only by the campsite where our motorhome stands high above the sea. From there we have a wonderful view over both bays.

In the Porpoise Bay a dream of a sandy beach stretches out in a long arc. The shape of the bay apparently favors waves that delight surfers. But they also fascinate us. We can hardly tear ourselves away from the spectacle.

The bay is famous for the Hector Dolphins that live here in the area. With a length of 1.2 to 1.4 meters, they are among the smallest dolphins, but also among the rarest. They are known to approach swimmers, surfers and boats here in the bay and ‚investigate‘ them. Of course, it’s forbidden to approach them, but if they decide to swim with someone, that’s okay.

Below our pitch, the beach of Porpoise Bay is separated from the open sea by a rock barrier. On one part of it, seabirds sit like pearls strung on a string. Another area is exposed to the waves that break spectacularly and rush up fountains.
