The lighthouse El Faro de Punta Caldera (near Caldera) is the first among the more than 550 lighthouses in the collection of the Aroundgetter, with a field of stone pyramids in the foreground. It is obviously well visited. The jagged headland on which it stands, as well as the offshore bird islands, are made of rough, angular lava rock in black, brown and yellow. We have seen this again and again on the coast in northern Chile in the past few days. But here there is a completely different area, where grey-brown rocks are rounded and polished. Some of them are in turn eroded with holes.
