Quarrel and sex on the rocks

RP_2013_10_29_MuriwaiBeach_133

We are at the right time in Muriwai Beach, about 25 km northwest of Auckland. From September to February, flocks of gannets breed in the lava rocks of the coast. This is one of the few mainland gannet colonies in the world, usually nesting on remote, uninhabited islands. Hatched is close together with little soft pad on the bare rock. Stress, steeling of nesting material, quarrels and sex are commonplace.
