Auf dem Weg zur Südküste lassen wir das Tal des Eglinton River und den Lake Te Anau hinter uns. Östlich von Manapouri biegen wir ab nach Süden, auf die ‚Southern Scenic Route‘ (Clifden-Blackmount Road). Frau Rumkommer wünscht sich mal wieder Kochen mit Aussicht, und nach wenigen Kilometern ist ein hübscher Parkplatz rechts der Straße gefunden. Während sie kocht, darf der Herumkommer wieder mit der Kamera die Umgebung erkunden. Gegenüber ist eine Weide mit besonders kuscheligen Schafen und Lämmern.
Salad ‚Redcliff‘
On the way to the south coast we leave the valley of the Eglinton River and Lake Te Anau behind us. To the east of Manapouri we turn south to the Southern Scenic Route (Clifden-Blackmount Road). Mrs. Roundgetter wants again to cook with a view, and after a few kilometers a nice parking lot is found on the right side of the street. While she cooks, the Aroundgetter may explore the surroundings again with the camera. Opposite is a pasture with especially cuddly sheep and lambs.
Unmittelbar am Parkplatz verbirgt sich hinter einem Zaun und etwas Gebüsch eine landschaftliche Überraschung: Gleich hinter dem Zaun fällt das Gelände steil ab, und unterhalb liegt ein ausgedehntes Feuchtgebiet. Eine Informationstafel informiert über das Redcliff Wetland Reserve, das unter Einbeziehung des Waiau River renaturiert wurde.
Immediately at the parking lot behind a fence and some shrubs hides a scenic surprise: Just behind the fence, the area falls steeply, and below is an extensive wetland. An information board informs about the Redcliff Wetland Reserve, which was renatured with the involvement of the Waiau River.
Die Abbruchkante wird Namensgeber für die aktuelle Kreation aus der Knoblauchküche: Spargel-Paprikasalat Redcliff mit gebratenem Reis.
Zutaten für den Salat:
- 2 rote Paprika
- 1 Bund grüner Spargel
- 1 Bund Petersilie
- 1 Zitrone
- 2 Knoblauchzehen
- 1 Esslöffel Sesamöl
- Salz und Pfeffer
The brim is eponym for the current creation from the garlic kitchen: asparagus and bell pepper salad Redcliff with fried rice.
Ingredients for the salad:
- 2 red peppers
- 1 bunch of green asparagus
- 1 bunch of parsley
- 1 lemon
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- salt and pepper
Zubereitung:
Für den Salat werden Spargel und Paprika geputzt und in mundgerechte Stücke geschnitten, die fein gewogene Petersilie hinzu gegeben. Aus dem Saft der Zitrone, dem Sesamöl, den klein geschnittenen Knoblauchzehen sowie Pfeffer und Salz wird eine Salatsauce angerührt. Gekochter Natur- und Wildreis (vom Vortag) wird in Olivenöl gebraten und mit Sojasauce abgeschmeckt.
Preparation:
For the salad asparagus and peppers are cleaned and cut into bite-sized pieces, the finely cut parsley is added. From the juice of the lemon, the sesame oil, the finely chopped garlic cloves as well as pepper and salt, a salad dressing is stirred. Boiled natural and wild rice (from the day before) is fried in olive oil and seasoned with soy sauce.
Wenige Kilometer weiter finden wir einen Wegweiser zu einem Parkplatz mit Zugang zu dem Feuchtgebiet. Gern nehmen wir die Gelegenheit wahr zu einem Verdauungsspaziergang. Der Weg führt an den Wasserflächen entlang und eine Rampe hinauf zu einem weiteren Aussichtspunkt. Hier ist stellenweise kaum ein Durchkommen, weil Myriaden von Moskitos in der schwülen Luft tanzen.
A few kilometers further we find a signpost to a parking lot with access to the wetland. We are happy to take the opportunity for a digestive walk. The path leads along the water surface and up a ramp to another vantage point. Here, in places, it is almost impossible to get through, because myriads of mosquitoes dance in the sultry air.
