Die Gegend um Drumheller ist einer der bedeutendsten Fundorte für Saurierfossilien. Die Stadt hat sich daher werbewirksam zur Dinosaurier-Welthauptstadt (Dinosaur Capital of the World) ernannt. Das zielt auf das Kind im Kanadier, aber es ist wirklich gut gemacht und konsequent durchgezogen. Das geht von Straßennamen bis zum 26 m hohen, begehbaren weltgrößten Tyrannosaurus Rex (The World’s Largest Dinosaur), von Schaufenstern der Geschäfte über Parkbänke bis zur Feuerwehr. Die unterschiedlichsten Exponate sind lehrreich, witzig, gigantisch und einige sogar rührend. Uns hat es trotz Hitze viel Spaß gemacht, sie in der Stadt und ihrer Umgebung zu sichten. Und obwohl wir viele Fotos davon präsentieren, ist das nur ein Bruchteil dessen, was wir gesehen haben.
Dinosaur capital
The area around Drumheller is one of the most important sites for dinosaur fossils, which is why the town has promoted itself as the Dinosaur Capital of the World. This is aimed at the child in the Canadian, but it is really well done and consistently followed through. It ranges from street names to the 26 metre high, walk-in Tyrannosaurus Rex (The World’s Largest Dinosaur), from shop windows to park benches to the fire brigade. The various exhibits are educational, funny, gigantic and some are even touching. Despite the heat, we had a lot of fun spotting them in the city and its surroundings. And although we present many images of them, this is only a fraction of what we saw.
