Ausblicke von Lošinj
Im Süden von Cres führt eine kleine, einspurige Drehbrücke auf die Insel Lošinj, die quasi eine Art Verlängerung von Cres ist. Auf unserer Straßenkarte ist im Süden von Lošinj, jenseits von Mali Lošinj, ein Aussichtspunkt markiert. Dort wollen wir hin. Die schmale, einspurige Straße führt durch Nadelwald recht steil bergauf. Da sie gut asphaltiert ist, bereitet sie keine Probleme. Nach ein paar Serpentinen und mehreren Kurven erblicken wir voraus einen kleinen hölzernen Turm. Das muss es sein. Doch der Turm entpuppt sich als Startrampe für Mountainbike-Touren. Die Routen sind offenbar durch „Augen“ markiert, die auf Felsbrocken gemalt sind.
Views from Lošinj In the south of Cres, a small, single-track swing bridge leads to the island of Lošinj, which is a kind of extension of Cres. A lookout point is marked on our road map in the south of Lošinj, beyond Mali Lošinj. There we want to go. The narrow, single-lane road leads steeply uphill through coniferous forest. Since it is well paved, it poses no problems. After a few hairpin bends and several turns, we see a small wooden tower ahead. That must be it. But the tower turns out to be a launch pad for mountain bike tours. The routes are apparently marked by „eyes“ painted on boulders.
Ein paar hundert Meter weiter entdecken wir erhöht neben der Straße eine kleine Kapelle. Sv. Ivan steht an der Straße, San Giovanni am Gebäude. Die Region ist zweisprachig, kroatisch und italienisch, und so sind Ivan und Giovanni wohl dasselbe. Bei der Kapelle ist der gesuchte Aussichtspunkt. Hier haben wir eine herrliche Sicht auf Veli Lošinj und über die Insel Pag hinweg auf das inzwischen schneebedeckte Velebit-Gebirge. Auf der Rückfahrt öffnet sich auch ein Blick auf das größere Mali Lošinj.
A few hundred meters further on we discover a small chapel next to the road. Sv. Ivan says the sign at the road, San Giovanni on the building. The region is bilingual, Croatian and Italian, so Ivan and Giovanni are probably the same. The lookout point is at the chapel. Here we have a wonderful view of Veli Lošinj and across the island of Pag to the now snow-covered Velebit Mountains. On the way back there is also a view of the larger Mali Lošinj.
