Treibholzstrand auf Jeckyll Island
Im Nordosten von Jeckyll Island gibt es einen ungewöhnlichen, besonders beliebten Strand. Es ist ein guter Sandstrand, aber zum Baden wird er eher nicht genutzt. Erosion hat seit mehr als 120 Jahren diesem Bereich der Küstenlinie zugesetzt. Wind und Wasser haben die Baumwurzeln frei gelegt, das Salz im Wasser hat sicherlich wie Gift gewirkt. Während einige Baumgerippe erstaunlicherweise stehen blieben, sind viele teils von Sand begraben. Wenn es nicht Naturwerke wären, müsste man sie Kunstwerke nennen. Die Gezeiten sind hier schwach ausgeprägt, sodass sie nicht ins Meer gespült werden.
Driftwood beach on Jeckyll Island
There is an unusual, particularly popular beach in the north-east of Jeckyll Island. It is a good sandy beach, but it tends not to be used for swimming. Erosion has been affecting this part of the coastline for more than 120 years. Wind and water have exposed the tree roots and the salt in the water has certainly acted as a poison. If they were not works of nature, they would have to be called works of art. While some tree skeletons have surprisingly remained standing, many are partly buried by sand. The tides are weak here, so they are not washed into the sea.
