Hoch oben über Pena haben wir einen wunderbaren Stellplatz für die Nacht, mit grandioser Aussicht und himmlischer Ruhe. Am Morgen hängen im Tal weit unten Nebelbänke. Der trübe Himmel hält uns nicht davon ab, die Felsformationen weiter oberhalb, bei der Kapelle Santuário de São Macário zu erkunden.
High above Pena we have a wonderful pitch for the night, with a magnificent view and heavenly peace. In the morning, banks of fog hang in the valley far below. The overcast sky does not stop us from exploring the rock formations further up, at the chapel Santuário de São Macário.

Und dann begeben wir uns auf die „Achterbahnfahrt“ über die Serra de São Macário nach Westen, Richtung Küste. Die Straße ist asphaltiert, aber nicht viel breiter als ein Radweg, und folgt dem Profil der Berglandschaft. Wir passieren das „Höllentor“ (Portal do Inferno) und wieder geht’s steil hinauf.
And then we embark on the „rollercoaster ride“ across the Serra de São Macário to the west, towards the coast. The road is asphalted, but not much wider than a cycle path, and follows the profile of the mountain landscape. We pass the „Gate of Hell“ (Portal do Inferno) and again we climb steeply.
