Bei unserer ersten Islandreise im Jahr 2006 fuhr die Fähre mitten durch die Shetland-Inseln hindurch. Am Sonntagnachmittag war das ein großartiges Spektakel. In zügiger Fahrt ging es durch die Passage, die stellenweise nicht viel breiter ist, als mancher Fluss. Nach Auskunft am Information Desk der MS Norröna hängt diese Zugabe u.A. vom Wetter ab.
Aber wohl auch wegen der Verspätung in Hirtshals umfahren wir Shetland heute an seinem nördlichen Ende. Als wir uns den Inseln annähern, wird der Himmel zunehmend dramatisch. Durch Wolkenlücken taucht die Sonne das Meer in gleißendes Licht.
Shetland, in the very north

On our first Iceland trip in 2006, the ferry sailed through the Shetland Islands. On Sunday afternoon this was a great spectacle. In a speedy drive, we went through the passage, which in parts is not much broader than some river. According to the information desk of the MS Norröna, this bonus depends amongst others on the weather.
But probably also because of the delay in Hirtshals we travel around Shetland today at its northern end. As we approach the islands, the sky becomes increasingly dramatic. Through cloud gaps, the sun dips the sea into glaring light.

Gleich südlich des nördlichsten britischen Felsens steht, an landschaftlicher Dramatik kaum zu überbieten, der nördlichste Leuchtturm Schottlands und Großbritanniens, Muckle Flugga lighthouse. Frau Rumkommer hat in der Durchsage des Kapitäns ‚Mother f…er lighthouse‘ gehört.
And then the island of Unst is almost close enough to touch. Just south of the northernmost British rock, scarcely to be surpassed in scenic drama, the northernmost lighthouse of Scotland and Great Britain, Muckle Flugga lighthouse.
