Stormy Mt John
Already at Aoraki / Mt Cook the weather has changed. The sky is mostly overcast and it is getting windy on our drive to Tekapo at the lake of the same name.
Immediately adjacent to the place rises quite steeply a solitary single mountain, Mount John. At its summit is the leading New Zealand Observatory, a large area around Mt John is a dark sky reserve.
Up to the observatory leads a narrow road in serpentines. This gets the Aroundgetter in sweat, and Mrs. Roundgetter has sore muscles after the return journey from frequently trying to hit the break.
The wind has developed into a storm, especially on the hilltop. Because of the overcast sky nothing turns out as hoped for in the pictures with the (bigger) Lake Tekapo in turquoise and the (smaller) Lake Alexandrina in blue. Nevertheless, the view is worth seeing.
When we get back down, the storm front is also showing in the sky.
