Ålesund steht zu einem großen Teil auf Inseln. Es ist aber auch von Inseln umringt. Die Insel Godøy, nordwestlich der Stadt, ist ein wuchtiger Felsen mit einem Rand aus Flachland. Jenseits des Felsens, zu erreichen durch einen Tunnel, liegt das pittoreske Alnes, mit rot-weiß gestreiftem Leuchtturm.
Eigentlich wollen wir hier nur den Leuchtturm sehen. Am Stadtrand von Ålesund haben wir schon einen Übernachtungsplatz gefunden. Doch der Sturm ist inzwischen so angeschwollen, dass wir nicht mehr über die Bogenbrücke zurück fahren wollen, die auf dem Weg liegt. Das Meer tobt nicht, es wütet. Das Wasser, das von der Felswand hinter uns fällt, kommt nur zum Teil unten an, einen Großteil weht der Wind davon.
Storm at Alnes Ålesund stands largely on islands. But it is also surrounded by islands. The island of Godøy, northwest of the city, is a massive rock with a lowland edge. Beyond the rock, accessible through a tunnel, lies the picturesque Alnes, with a red and white striped lighthouse. Actually, we just want to see the lighthouse here. We have already found a place to stay on the outskirts of Ålesund. But the storm has swelled so much that we no longer want to drive back over the arch bridge that is on the way. The sea rages violently. The water that falls from the cliff behind us only partially arrives at the bottom, a large part is blown away by the wind.
Am Morgen regnet es nur noch gelegentlich und der Sturm hat ein wenig nachgelassen. Dennoch jagt er die Brandung über Hafenmole und Hauptstraße.
In the morning it rains only occasionally and the storm has subsided a bit. Nevertheless, it drives the surf over the pier and the main street.
