Above the clouds
Where the mountains of the Isle of Arran push through the clouds, we want to take pictures. We drive up the lonely, narrow mountain road. Through dense fog, which repeatedly rips open and lets through the bright sunshine. Meanwhile, the wind is constantly piling up new clouds and pushing them over the mountains. Just as the sun often conjures up a rainbow after the rain, so here in the clouds in the glistening white light a magical arc of fog shines.
Suddenly, as if by magic, a wide, clear view of the south side of the island of Arran appears. The tiny outlying island of Pladda with its lighthouse appears, but is still covered by a thick cloud. At regular intervals, the dull warning sounds from the foghorn of the lighthouse.
We drive down to the beach, walk through the shallow water and watch as the sun dissolves the clouds over the sea and Pladda and the lighthouse become visible.
