Rentnerleben eben.

Overwintering

It is mid-November. We drive along the south coast of Agrolís in the Peloponnese through a pretty, tidy village. At the end of the village, at a tavern that is unfortunately closed, we return and go back along the beach promenade. Here, tavernas alternate with pretty holiday villas. The shutters and gateways are closed. At present there is no one living here. There is laundry for drying on the tavern terrace with a beautiful view of the sea. In a field someone is watering the young cabbages. Otherwise, there are no other life signs. I wonder: „Where do the Greeks overwinter?“

I had a beautiful oleander in the balcony bucket. In the autumn I put it in the stairs, there it is bright and warm, and I have watered it too. It did not like it, it threw out almost all the leaves. In the spring it got a nice place on the balcony again and the announcement that it had to get used to the Hamburg weather from now on. It had not survived the winter.

We go to a campsite for laundry and battery charging. Among eucalyptus trees, palm trees and many other exotic trees, we meet Austrians, Swiss and Germans, who are wintering here. According to the motto of the Bremen city musicians „Something better than the death we find everywhere“ they have comfortably furnished here. They go for a walk with the dog, have their IPad and their television program, and maybe stay the summer. Just retirement life
